Today, I’m pleased to share the VPR Strategic Plan, which you can explore here: https://strategy.research.utah.edu/
This plan is designed to position the University of Utah for the next decade of discovery—building on our extraordinary strengths while investing in the emerging areas that will shape the future of science, engineering, medicine, and the humanities.
Research at the University of Utah has always been driven by curiosity, collaboration, and a commitment to solving real-world problems. Our goal with this strategy is to amplify those strengths by creating the structures, partnerships, and investments that enable breakthrough ideas to flourish.
The strategic plan focuses on several guiding priorities:
- Strengthening research platforms and interdisciplinary hubs that bring together scholars from across the university
- Investing in people—supporting faculty, trainees, and research leaders at every stage of their careers
- Building world-class research infrastructure and testbeds that enable large-scale discovery and deployment
- Expanding partnerships with federal agencies, national laboratories, industry, and the State of Utah
- Connecting discovery to impact, translating research into societal, economic, and technological progress
Importantly, this plan is not a static document. It is a living roadmap—one that will continue to evolve as new opportunities emerge and as our research community helps shape the path forward.
The University of Utah has long been a place where bold ideas take root. By aligning our investments, strengthening our research platforms, and working collaboratively across disciplines, we can ensure that the discoveries made here continue to change lives in Utah, across the nation, and around the world.
I invite you to explore the strategy and consider how your work connects with the opportunities it outlines.
