Chocolate Pie

My grandma Myrtle Wienke used to make the best chocolate pudding. Sometimes she would poor it into a graham cracker crust and serve it as chocolate pie. She taught my mom to make that pie, and my mom taught me. I guess you could say it is a family recipe.

I make it at thanksgiving, and Christmas, and sometimes when I just feel like having pie. This summer, I made several pies at once to give to a neighbor fighting through a health issue. Making a quadruple batch has become the norm for me. It takes a big pot and an even bigger spoon to keep that pudding from burning as it thickens.

I’m not a cook. But I do make deserts from time to time. Maybe I will make chocolate pie at a writing retreat in the future. 🙂
